"Ninth Annual Artist Showcase"
Opening Reception: Friday, December 9 at 6pm
at the Main Branch of the Boone County Public Library
1786 Burlington Pike, Burlington.
The show continues from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 10. At 2 p.m
Its time for the 9th Annual Artist Showcase at Boone County Public Library. Each year, talented artists from around the area come together to display artwork in a variety of mediums - from watercolor to woodcarving and pottery to printmaking. New this year, artists will be selling their work during the event. This is a great time to buy a one-of-a-kind gift for that special someone before the holiday rush.
This years featured artist, Bill Brown, will share the secrets behind his art. Bill works in a number of media, including graphite, watercolors, oils and acrylics. He paints landscapes and also specializes in custom portraiture. Bill is self-taught and has studied the methods of the old masters.
Of course the creative fun doesnt end with the Artist Showcase. This event serves as an unofficial kickoff to three months worth of arts and crafts programs at all Boone County Public Library locations. From how-to classes on crochet and wood-carving to painting and photography, there is a workshop for everyone at the Library. For the complete list of programs, visit the Librarys website: www.bcpl.org or stop by the library and pick up the latest newsletter.
Upcoming Member Events
Every month the BCVAA has a topic chosen to be the next month's Monthly Artist Challenge.
Topics have varied from different colors to something as specific as "Birds," "Fire," "Rain," and even "Plaid!" The Artist Challenge is meant to challenge member creativity. It is always fun to see what everyone comes up with the following month.
The month's winner is decided by vote. The winner then chooses the next month's topic.
Participation in the challenge is optional. Feel free to bring any piece of artwork you feel like sharing whether it fits the Artist Challenge Topic or not.
Monthly Artist Challenge Topic for the
August 2011 Meeting is:
HORSES
Every month at our monthly meetings we swap Artist Trading Cards! Its a great way to share tiny masterpieces with echother.
This is strictly voluntary and only those who wish to participate need bring a card. But all those who bring one will leave with a unique piece of art made by another member of the BCVAA!
The rules are simple: the size must be 2.5 by 3.5 inches in size and have the artist's signature. For more information about this new craze, check out this website:
